On the 29th of April Nelspruit hosted the 2007 South African Championships for the second time, 2006 being the first. It was the 1st tournament for the year and the 1st training tournament for the National & Presidents development teams in preparation for the World Championships in Holland later the year.
There were 3 Grandmasters present at the tournament, Grandmaster Eddie Jacobsen from South Africa, Grandmaster Mark Adlington from the UK and Grandmaster Jeong Seong Kim from Korea. The students had a excellent weekend with the Grandmasters, the weekend included a Kido energy seminar on the Friday, a Forms application seminar on the Sunday and a Haedong Kumdo seminar and Grading on the same day.
The tournament on the Saturday started at 09:00 with the senior and junior Dan member’s Forms and sparring categories, followed by the rest of the Gup categories.
After that it was the weapon categories.
While the students were getting ready for the Haedong Kumdo part of the tournament, Grandmaster Kim entertained the spectators with a demo of two hand draws and a two handed sword form.
After the demos, the Haedong Kumdo forms and cutting categories got underway.
The students from Wolves Academy did very well on the day and achieved the following;
Tang Soo Do
Sparring – 13 Gold, 11 Silver
Forms – 5 Gold, 6 Silver, 14 Bronze
Weapon Forms – 3 Gold, 3 Bronze
Haedong Kumdo
Forms – 5 Gold, 7 Silver, 6 Bronze
Cutting – 7 Gold, 7 Silver, 5 BronzeIn all Wolves Academy took – 33 Gold, 31 Silver, 40 Bronze
